Goldilocks and the AI Revolution: Why Mid-Sized Companies May Be 'Just Right' for GenAI Adoption.

Large companies currently dominate GenAI adoption, with 46% reporting mid-to-high levels of maturity compared to just 28% of mid-sized firms. But that advantage may be fading.

This Fortune piece argues that as GenAI evolves, mid-sized companies are increasingly well placed to catch up and even pull ahead, because the very scale that gave large firms an edge is now working against them. Extensive management layers, entrenched processes and siloed operations cause large enterprises to suffer from "death by a thousand pilots," where proof-of-concept projects fail to scale. Mid-sized companies, by contrast, have the agility to adopt and operationalise GenAI more quickly, and developments such as AI-as-a-service platforms and customisable models are rapidly levelling the playing field.

Drawing on research by LBS, the Institute of Directors and Evolution Ltd, the piece offers five concrete steps mid-sized firms should take to move from adoption to genuine value creation.
